First, I have to point out that creepy semi-generic fatty-food statues don't exist in Berlin alone; they span the globe. But Ed Ward found a place here that wants to cash in on the trend of American sausage products without scaring off dieters:
Contest: Where in Berlin do you find "organic hot dogs"? And what are they made from? Free-range pigs, oder wat?

That's a good question, and you got it partly right: organic hot dogs are made from free-range animals. But there's more to it. They haven't been fed hormones or antibiotics. And then the meat is treated differently.
As this NYT article explains, sausage scientists had to come up with some other way to preserve the meat to satisfy people who are afraid of nitrites and nitrates. Seems that "celery juice, lactic acid and sea salt" does the trick.
