Snow? That's what they call snow in California?

Yup:

"Authorities said there were between 4 and 6 inches of slush and snow blanketing the downhill grade outside the Waldo Tunnel, catching drivers unaware as they sped through the tunnel and slid uncontrollably down the hill.

"...'I thought it was raining,' he said, surveying the wreckage later Saturday. 'I didn't think it was snow because I never experienced snow.

"'I couldn't believe how much snow was on the ground. ... I was thankful I was OK.'"

Yeah, it's embarrassing. Especially if you're Detroit-bred and know what actual snow is like. All of the so-called snow had of course melted by the time they took this picture.

England is pretty much the same. More than a mm of snow and chaos everywhere.

I was in Brandenburg at the weekend and according to the radio there were 400 reported accidents on Saturday alone because of the snow.

Whereas in the little Swiss village where my mama lives everyone has their own snow whiffler and goes out whiffling every morning, no worries. Two metre high banks of snow? Whatever..

Do they really call 'em snow whifflers? How wonderful! I think we call them something boring like snow blowers here. Dull and unevocative by comparison.
