I think it would have been funnier if the guy with the dictionary had swung it, missed, lost his balance and totalled the girl. Much like the Chaplin banana skin gag principle. (Man walks downa a street towards a banana skin, seemingly unaware of it. At the last minute he steps over it and falls down a manhole)
