I Like the Shotgun Guy in Crawford

He won't commit to really liking Bush. He said -- not quoted in this piece, though I saw it on tee-vee -- "Ah think of it like comp'ny. If yer brother-n-law came over fer five days, wouldn't it start to stink after a while?" At least the man's honest. Another thing he said, which is utterly undeniable, was, "This is Texas."

I'd probably do about the same thing. The "dove season" reference says a lot, though. It means, basically, that he fired very small shotgun pellets into the air. Almost harmless unless you're the size of a dove at 30 feet. If I had a giant ranch in Texas, I'd be playing around with my dove loads, too, right now. Instead, I have to go to the gun club, like everyone else around here.

I don't know, I think he sounds like a real asshole. But things are different in texas-- I guess you could fire a gun just because you felt slightly cranky and not expect anyone to be alarmed or feel threatened, or something.

Her vigil has a definite end date, and she's where the Secret Service told her to be. And, she's grieving a son who died in Iraq-- surely even a gun-owning Texas could have a little respect?

In other Texas news, I'm really annoyed that Lance Armstrong is going biking with George Wanker Bush (to quote Malachy McCourt). He does say he's against the war so hopefully he'll be able to slip in a word or two before he drops Bush like he was standing still.

Oh, the guy's definitely a real asshole. He's just so far over the top it's hard to despise him.

I don't know...dove season is a pretty big deal. Tasty little critters, too. :) Sorry, but I think he was not happy about the protests, but he was also doing what we're all doing...getting ready for hunting season.

"This is Texas": In my several visits there, I have frequently heard those three words are a standalone explanation for almost anything. One example: as I got ready to walk my brother's dog, I asked what I should take to clean up the poop the dog would undoubtedly make. My brother said, simply (but with obvious disdain for my question), "This is Texas!"
