Laughter School Opens in Germany

I can't tell if this is funny or not:
Laughter teacher Susanne Maier said people who sign up for the courses practice exercises to teach them all the different types of laughs.

Standing around in small groups, Germans are seen slapping themselves on the forehead with their mouths wide open and practising different types of laughter.
(Thanks to Rachel.)

Comments:
I'm wondering if this has Indian roots. For several years, I've been reading about laughter clubs in India. Dr. Madan Kataria is credited with starting this. Hey, sounds easier than yoga.

Um, I find it oddly frightening, myself.

I wonder if you get a certificate. Germans love certificates.

"Germans love certificates."

Thats because its an additional piece of paperwork. I bet you get three certificates at least, 1 of which they keep for no reason at all, and you have to hand in at least 2 passport photos as well.

But what is the point of a laughter school in a country that has no funny jokes? Its not that Germans arent funny... they are really funny but its usually only by making classic comments at just the right moment. And when they do I have never met anyone who doesnt laugh here. It must be that they are told that "Quatsch Comedy Club" is funny and sit there for hours without being able to do anything but grimace. Message to germany: you dont have a problem... the program just isnt funny!
